VADODARA, Dec 14: A broad guage railway line which will connect Navalakhi, an upcoming all-weather lighterage port, and Morbi is likely to be completed by June 1999, according to a Central Gujarat Chamber of Commerce (CGCC) release on Monday.According to information received by the CGCC from the Western Railway administration, the present meter guage branch line connecting Navalakhi Port and Morbi was constraining movement involving road bridging and transshipment to reach the broad guage destinations. WR had therefore decided to convert the Navalakhi-Dahinsara-Maliamyana meter guage section into broad guage, the release said.
The move is expected to provide an immediate opportunity for movement of goods for import and export to and from Navalakhi all the way by the broad guage route.
The CGCC has requested trade and industry to make use of the facility in the future and detail their plans for cargo movement with the broad guage conversion.
