CHANDIGARH, Dec 14: Punjab Sports Club, Mohali and Weightlifting Coaching Centre-30 were declared the winners and runners-up, respectively in the Chandigarh State 14th Senior and 7th Junior men powerlifting championship which concluded yesterday, at the Punjab University Gymnasium Hall. Ten meet records were established in the junior group while eight were broken in the senior category.Out of ten records, Didar Singh accounted for four in the junior section in the 90kg category. In squat, he lifted 235kg which was 10kg better then the old mark. In bench press he erased the previous mark of 115kg by 42.5kg. In dead lift he lifted 20kg more than the old record of 245kg, which increased the total from 550kg to 637.5kg.
In the senior division, Amandeep Singh in the plus 125kg, broke four records.In fact, Amandeep, the heaviest lifter of the meet, improved his own meet mark in squat 300kg (290kg), bench press 180kg (165kg), dead lift 270kg (250kg) and total 750kg (705kg).
The other records came in the 56kg and 100kg in the junior section and 60kg, 75kg, and 90kg, respectively, in the senior group.
