PUNE, Dec 16: In a gruesome and cold-blooded murder, a 26-year-old housewife was done to death by her husband. He struck her on her head with a grinding stone in their one-room house at Dhankawdi, this afternoon.The victim, Savita Dilip Dhavade, died on the spot. Her husband Dilip (31), an autorickshaw driver, surrendered to the Dhankawdi police. He informed the police about the murder and said he had suspected his wife's character.
Their children, five-year-old Kajal and two-year-old Kiran, were witness to the ghastly incident which took place at around 12.30 p.m. Savita lay in a pool of blood on the floor with her face down when the police arrived at Dhavade's house at Pitrukrupa building, Namdeo Chavan chawl, near Shreedutt temple, Dhankavdi. Blood was splattered all over the room. Kajal and Kiran sat on the bed, dumbstruck after witnessing their mother's murder.
Dhavade came home in the afternoon for lunch. He closed the door and beat Savita and the two children. The children's faces bore the marksof the abuse. In a fit of anger, he picked up the grinding stone and slammed it on Savita's head. Dilip and Savita were married in 1992. He had been harassing his wife since then, the police said.
