NEW DELHI, December 16: Delhi Education Minister Narender Nath today said that the Delhi government had decided to withdraw its nominees from the governing bodies of 28 Delhi administration colleges in the Capital. ``The decision was taken at a recent Cabinet meeting,'' Nath said, adding that a letter to this effect had been sent to the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University. Most of the members nominated by the government are MLAs, usually from the ruling party. Presently, most of the nominees are BJP MLAs. On the new nominees to the governing bodies, Nath said: ``They need not necessarily be from the Congress, they can also belong to the BJP. The criterion is that they should have some experience in the field of education.''
There are 10 members in the governing bodies of day colleges, five appointed by the Delhi University and an equal number nominated by the government. In the case of evening colleges, there are 12 members in the governing bodies, six selected by the Delhi University and six nominated by the government.
As reported by Express Newsline last week, the Delhi Government had issued an order stating that all governing bodies and government boards were to be reconstituted and, hence, no meetings of these bodies were to be held. Today, however, the education ministry withdrew this order saying that it would take some time for the government to nominate members in place of those being withdrawn from the bodies.
Criticising the previous BJP government's education policies, the minister said: ``I am not satisfied with any of their policies. For instance, two teachers whose mark-sheets were found to be bogus, were appointed. Their appointment has now been withheld.'' He added that he would hold a meeting with the Public Works Department (PWD) to improve the infrastructure of schools in the Capital. The minister also said that teachers were being recruited on a contract of three months to fill the vacancies created in the past academic year.
