GURGAON, December 16: Around 2.77 lakh children up to five years of age were administered polio vaccine during the first phase of the Pulse Polio campaign on Dec 6. Deputy Commissioner, Gurgaon, Krishan Kumar while announcing the figure added that the target achieved in the district was 26 per cent above the targeted figure.Giving information about the repair of roads and recarpeting in the city, he said that an amount of Rs 112.17 lakh has been spent by the Municipal council between April and November for construction of the 3.05 km C.C Road, 1.14 km waterbound road, 9.97 km of metalled road and pavements.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Gurgaon, Sudhir Rajpal said that earthen dams have been built in Kherla, Abheypur and Bhondsi under the integrated watershed development project. He added that stone work on the ponds in various villages has been done to prevent soil erosion and about 22,000 forest species and 13,000 horticulture species have been planted in the project area.
Rajpal informed that this project was launched in 15 villages of Sohna Block in 1996 for treating 5,473 hectares of land.
The main objective was to promote economic development of villages through optimum utilisation of natural resources like water, land and vegetation that will mitigate the adverse effects of drought and prevent further ecological degradation.
