Frustrated man shoots lover, self

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, December 18: 18-YEAR-OLD Kiran and 24-year-old Keshav were found lying dead in a one-room Prasad Nagar house in central Delhi at around 4.30 pm today. Preliminary investigations indicate that an inebriated Keshav had shot Kiran through the head and then killed himself with a country-made revolver. The police said that Kiran and Keshav had a relationship going since the past two years. Opposed to the match, Kiran's family had apparently fixed her marriage three months ago. Keshav was a worker in a small cardboard manufacturing unit in Mangolpuri and had visited his uncle -- whose house Kiran's family had previously rented -- in Prasad Nagar today where he had been drinking all day, the police said.

Her brother, Pradeep Kumar told Express Newsline, ``Nine months ago, we used to live in a rented house which belonged to Keshav's uncle. Keshav proposed to my sister, but we did not agree to the match as my sister deserved better. So, we moved out of the house.''

Kiran's mother, Indravati, had apparently gone to the local market to get milk when the incident happened. She came back to find the front door locked from inside. Neighbours alerted the police who broke open the door. Kiran's dog was in the one-room house and the bodies lay on a blood-soaked mat. A bullet had passed through Kiran's head. A .315 bore country made revolver lay near Keshav's head. A stamp-sized picture of Keshav which hade been cut in the shape of a heart lay in the pool of blood.

The police have recovered four snapshots of Kiran from Keshav's wallet. They have also found some negatives which are yet to be developed. There were no visible signs of resistance in the room. The police have not recovered any suicide note. The police have expressed astonishment at the fact that the neighbours did not hear either the gunshot or the dog's barks. The building is home to seven families who live in one-room sets. Pradeep works in a tailoring shop. ``My stepfather is out of town. He runs a tailoring shop here. Mother married again after our father died years ago.'' However, the police said that Pradeep's father Mohanlal is currently serving a sentence in jail.
