AHMEDABAD, DEC 19: On Minorities Day on Friday, the State Government superseded the State Waqf Board, drawing flak from the Opposition.Deploring the move, Board chairman Mohammad Ali Kadri described the day as black day for minorities. He said that the chairman and members were appointed for five years by the previous Rashtriya Janata Party government, and he would approach the High Court against the BJP government move.
Kadri said that by appointing the State Waqf Board for the development of properties of Waqf trusts and better administration, the RJP government headed by Shankarsingh Vaghela had fulfilled the demands of the minority community. However, he said, the BJP Government started showing indifference since the day it took over. Kadri alleged that only Rs 5 lakh was granted to the Board by the Government against the demand of Rs 1 crore.
The BJP government was not even ready to provide enough staff, he further alleged.
The government had attempted to control the Board by not approving therules and regulations sent to it by the board, he said.
He added that by superseding it, the BJP government had shown that it was unwilling to ensure development of minorities.
