MUMBAI, Dec 19: In line with the International Pharmaceutical Excepient Council (IPEC) in Europe and the United States and the Japanese Pharmaceutical Excepient Council (JPEC), South Asian countries will have a local chapter of SAPEC (South Asian Pharmaceutical Excepient Council) with headquarters in India. This was formally launched in the recently concluded Indian Pharmaceutical Congress Association (IPCA)-Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations (FAPA) meet in Mumbai.SAPEC will operate in India through Pharmaceutical & Allied Manufacturers' and Distributors Association Ltd (PAMDAL). A subcommittee, comprising of Atul Dangi, Kurdekar, Ajit Singh, Kamlesh Oza and Nayan Patel has been formed to focus on the functionality and usability of the excepients manufactured in India and other South Asian Countries.
The need for harmonization has been increasingly felt by the pharmaceutical industry in wake of bilateral trade of excepients among various South Asian countries.
