Nineteen-year-old Nilesh Mohan Manorkar was found unconscious by his landlord. He was immediately admitted into a private nursing home but died on Saturday morning. According to police, Manorkar had consumed insecticide.

His uncle, an engineer with the MSEB at Chandrapur, lodged a complaint with police saying Manorkar was tortured by a group of 10 to 12 seniors at the beginning of the session. Manorkar moved out of the college hostel to a rented room and complained to his parents and some teachers.

This, according to the victim's uncle, resulted in reprisal from the seniors, driving the student to suicide.

IGMC dean Dr W M Tayade, however, denied ragging as the reason behindNilesh's suicide. He said the anti-ragging committee of the college, which met every month to consider complaints, had not received any complaint from the deceased.
