CHANDIGARH, DEC 20: The Shiromani Gurdwarak Parbhandak Committee (SGPC) chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra today held a closed-door meeting with the BSP chief Kanshi Ram at the UT State Guest House, here this morning. The meeting continued for an hour, the details of which were not available.
The meeting holds significance in view of the ongoing tussle between the Badal and Tohra factions in the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
Later, Kanshi Ram agreed to support the Akalis provided they break away with the BJP. Talking to mediapersons, the BSP chief said ``We are open to an understanding with the section of the SAD which will move away from the BJP.'' He added that if the Akalis fulfilled the pre-condition laid by the BSP of not aligning with either the BJP or the Congress, they would join hands with them.
It may be recalled that before the Assembly elections in Punjab, Tohra was inclined to have an electoral alliance with the BSP, instead of the BJP.
