EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Suicide case
The City police on Sunday registered a case of abetment to suicide under sections 498-A, 306 and 114 IPC against four people, who allegedly drove 36-year-old Shamim Bano to commit suicide. According to an FIR in the J P Road police station, Shamim Bano was living with her husband Mohiuddin Sadruddin Malik and his younger brother Kamaruddin Sadruddin Malik in Akota area. As it was a joint family, Kamaruddin, employed in the Central Excise and Customs Department, used to give his entire salary to his brother. This was resented by his other two brothers and their wives who lived in Tandalja area. Kamaruddin's two brothers and their wives asked Shamim Bano to part with Kamaruddin's monthly earnings. When she refused, they started harassing her. Unable to bear the harassment, Shamim Bano set herself on fire on December 13, the police said. She succumbed to injuries in the SSG Hospital on December 17. The police said the accused were absconding.
