SURAT, Dec 20: The city unit of the Congress has asked the police to stop Bajrang Dal activists from taking the law into their hands. In a statement on Sunday, city Congress president Thakorebhai Naik said if the police failed to prevent the Dal activists from forcibly closing video parlours, allegedly screening blue films, the Congress will prevent them.The Congress president warned that if the police fail to take timely action against the Dal, a law and order problem will arise and could lead to a group clash, for which the police would be held responsible.
Condemning the recent attack on a theatre showing the controversial film -- Fire -- Naik said the attack was an uncivilized way of protest. Instead, they should have asked the theatre owner to withdraw the film.
He also criticised the Bajrang Dal's threat to disrupt the Kinetic Event Night to be held on new year's eve, beside hotel embassy near the railway station. Besides Kashmira Shah, Shekhar Suman and film actress Monica Bedi are to perform at the night.
