KHARAR, Dec 20: No arrests have been made so far in connection with Saturday night's firing incident on the Civil Hospital premises, which had left six persons injured.Station House Officer Jasdev Singh said the police were yet to register a case because a victim admitted to hospital, Health Department employee Saminder Singh, was not in a position to give a statement. Markfed employee Harbans Singh, who was referred to PGI, was discharged this afternoon, he added. Four others had been discharged after first-aid last night itself.
Talking to Newsline, Saminder Singh said he was standing along with some persons at the gate of the Civil Hospital when the firing took place. "What happened before and after the incident, I do not know," he added.
Meanwhile, police sources said both the groups belonged to the nearby Maggar village. The group members had apparently quarrelled on Saturday morning over some minor land dispute and two persons -- Kulwant Singh and Baljinder Singh, both of Maggar -- were injured. The two, sources added, were admitted to the Civil Hospital. The rival groups reached a compromise and no police case was therefore registered.
Baljinder Singh, admitted in the male ward, told Newsline that he was watering his fields when a three-member gang, led by Kulwant Singh, armed with sharp-edged weapons suddenly appeared at the scene and overpowered him on Saturday morning. Baljinder Singh said when his relative, Harbans Singh, along with a friend came in his car to serve him dinner, members of the rival group attacked him, which resulted in the firing.
