Vice President inaugurates homoeopathic conference

NEW DELHI, December 20: Vice President Krishna Kant today said that a multidisciplinary approach should be evolved to improve the quality and effectiveness of health care. ``The present atmosphere is conducive for an inter-system dialogue about how to provide to a patient the best medical remedy and how the various systems of medicines can enhance their respective efficacy through mutual support.'' It should be possible to devise acceptable yardsticks to assess the efficacy of the alternative medicines, including homeopathy, and to assess their comparative merits, he added.

Inaugurating the homoeopathic conference on the occasion of silver jubilee of the Central Council of Homoeopathy here today, Krishna Kant said that recourse to alternative medicines by patients has shown a marked increase in this decade. Quoting Harvard researchers, he said that patients made 629 million visits to alternative medicine practitioners including homoeopathy in the year 1997.
