Ojha powers Rizvi Springfield into quarters

MUMBAI, DEC 24: Pankaj Ojha slammed a superb 194 to steer Rizvi Springfield High School's into the quarter-finals of the MSSA Harris Shield (u-16) Inter-School Cricket Tournament.

In the pre-quarters at the Cross Maidan today, Springfield rode on Ojha's knock to trounce Anjuman Islam, Fort by 210 runs.

The 13-year-old Ojha cracked 20 boundaries during his marathon knock. He was also involved in a 100-run stand for the eight wicket with all-rounder Ashish Gupta as Springfield went on to pile a massive score of 361. The duo's association retrieved the situation after they were reeling at 7-191 at one stage.

Gupta returned to inflict telling blows to derail Anjuman's run-charge. The young medium-pacer scalped four wickets for 27 runs.

Shaikh Rashid (57) and A Wahid (30) were the only batsmen to offer some resistance.

Khanvilkar to lead

Omkar Khanvilkar will lead the Mumbai u-16 cricket team for their Merchant Trophy knockout campaign that commences at Patiala from Jan 1.

The Team:Omkar Khanvilkar (captain), Paul Valthaty, Vinet Indulkar, Sangram Bagul, Neil Daftary, Rubesh Kumar, Soham Dalvi, Nikhil Kulkarni, Aditya Tausalkar, Sanchit Pande, Shakti Prasad, Rohan Saldanha, Darshan Bhoir, Parag Madkaikar and Altaf Shaikh.

Saraswati in final

Saraswati Education will play Sri Ma Bal Niketan in the final of the 3rd Ghantali Cup Inter-School (under-14) Cricket Tournament at the Centre Maidan, Thane.

Saraswati edged out People Education by one wicket while Bal Niketan upstaged AK Joshi High School by 22 runs.

Baqar, Yogini prevail

BaqarNasser and Yogia Wani in the boys and girls section, respectively, dominated in the State Level Cycling meed sponsored by Perfect Motors and held at the Vallabhbhai Patel Velodrome.

Baqar won the 100 massed start and 4000 metres lapped race in the boys under-18 section while finishing second in the men's 100 metres time trial and 1600 metres massed start.

Yogita won two events -- the 1000 metres massed start for women and 500 metres time trial for girls under-18.

Altaf Mansoori scored the match-winner as Reserve Bank of India defeated leaders Rizvi SC, 1-0, in the Gulf Oil First Division match at the Cooperage today.

Mastan YMCA A blanked CBD YMCA in the boys' under-13 first round of the Second Fr Agnel Open basketball tournament at the Fr Agnel Sports Complex, Vashi.

MD Faisal (12 points), Quereshi Vikar (8) and Shaikh Junaid (7) starred in their team's 45-0 win.
