It was expected to be a tense gathering after some of the senior players had lashed out at the federation soon after the Bangkok win. However, IHF president KPS Gill put to rest -- at least for the time being -- any speculation regarding worsening player-federation relations with a curt, ``No questions. This is time for celebration.''

He hastened to announce a Rs 1 lakh cash award for every player, the two coaches, manager and the team doctor. ``I'm happy to say the Prime Minister has announced Rs 20 lakh for the team. In addition, the IHFwill present drafts worth Rs 1 lakh each to every player here,'' he said. ``This time we got drafts made because IHF cheques have been known to have bounced in the past,'' Gill said, amid laughter all around.

``I congratulate the boys for showing rare mental toughness in winning the gold,'' Gill said and cut short a mike waving journalist with another ``No questions.''

The IHF president also said a felicitation ceremony in Jalandhar planned by the Punjab Hockey Association for later today had been postponed as most players wanted to rush back home. ``I hope the other state federations will follow suit in felicitating their players,'' Gill said.

The players went through the formalities, smiling for cameramen. Baljit Singh Dhillon and Ramandeep Singh were not around to receive their awards having left for their homes early in the day.
