Thalassery, Dec 24: M Kavana of Karnataka did show flashes of brilliance before losing to her smarter rival Swati Ghate on the top board in the second round of the 13th National junior girls chess championship here today.Choosing the Bishop's opening, defending champion and second seed Pallavi Shah of Maharashtra was in smashing form as she crushed her State-mate Shraddha Samani in just 26 moves.Third seed International Woman Master Nisha Mohota also posted a quick victory over her Tamil Nadu opponent P Priya in 35 moves. Nisha forced the exchange of Queens after just seven moves in the Caro-Kann advance variation game.
