NEW DELHI, DEC 24: The Rashtrapati Bhavan today denied as ``baseless'', reports that the passage of the Patents Bill in Lok Sabha could not be secured because of delay in obtaining President's orders, and said that the Bill never came to the President for clearance.Rejecting reports in this regard, a Rashtrapati Bhavan press release said ``The Bill in question was not received in Rashtrapati Bhavan at any stage. The reports are, therefore, entirely baseless.''
The release referred to reports in sections of the press today, suggesting that the Patents Amendment Bill could not be placed before the Lok Sabha yesterday due to delay in obtaining of Presidential orders.
Meanwhile, Congress spokesman Shivraj V Patil told reporters that there was no need for sending the bill, already passed by the Rajya Sabha, to the President.
Patil said once a bill was passed by one House, it should be transmitted to the other for consideration. In this case, there was no need for the measure to be referred to thePresident, he added.
