We'll table Gundewar report on Dec 29: Govt
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, DECEMBER 24: The state government today assured the Bombay High Court that it would place the S D Gundewar Commission report, along with its Action Taken Report, on the floor of the state assembly in Nagpur on December 29.The assurance came from special counsel V D Govilkar who appeared for the government during the hearing of a public interest petition. The petitioners, Shyam Gaikwad and Milind Bhanwar, had asked the court to direct the government to place the commission report on the floor of the house. The commission was appointed to probe into the desecration of the Babasaheb Ambedkar statue at Ramabai Nagar on July 11, 1997. Eleven persons died in the police firing that followed the desecration. Justice Gundewar presented the report to the government in August this year. It is mandatory for the government to make the report public within six months of the submission. The petitioners, therefore, asked that the government be directed to do the needful in public interest. However, due to theassurance given by Govilkar today, the petitioners withdrew the petition.
