Bomb hoax at SSG hospital
A five-member team of the anti-bomb squad police rushed to the casualty department of the S S G Hospital on Thursday morning after an anonymous caller informed the Police Control Room that a bomb had been planted there. Hospital Superintendent Dr Kamal Pathak and a police spokesman told Express Newsline that the inspection of the entire new casualty department at the ground floor of the hospital was conducted by the squad with the help of a sniffer dog. However, the scare was found to be a hoax with no explosive material traced in the about 10-minute-long search, the spokesman said, adding that the message was received over phone and on a pager at Control Room in ``fluent English''.

PSI's bail plea adjourned again
Hearing on the anticipatory bail plea of Shinor police sub-inspector Praveen H Chaudhary allegedly involved in rape and torture of an adivasi woman has further been adjourned to December 28 by Additional District Judge Y H Sikh. Meanwhile, police papers and other documents in the case sent to the Gujarat High Court required in a similar case filed in the high court have been brought back.

New meters to check power theft
The Gujarat Electricity Board on Thursday decided to purchase meters and equipment worth nearly Rs 50 lakh to check power theft. At a meeting of officers, Board chairman Nalin Bhatt said all efforts would be made to prevent Gujarat following the lines of Bihar in terms of power theft.

Paper submission timings extended
Keeping in view the good response to the Kar Vivad Samadhan Scheme, 1998, the Commissionerate of Central Excise and Customs here have made arrangements to receive declarations under the scheme even on holidays during the validity of the scheme. The declarations will be received in the control room at the Central Excise building on Race Course road up to 6 pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and on other working days it will be received in the Kar Vivad Samdhan Scheme cell on the first floor up to 8 pm. On December 31, the declarations will be received up to midnight.

Denotified nomadic tribals' meet
The All India Committee for Protection of Rights of De-notified and Nomadic Tribes, chaired by Magsaysay and Jnanpith awardee Mahashweta Devi, will organise a state-level convention of de-notified and nomadic tribes in Vadodara on Saturday. About 1,000 persons are expected to attend the convention. Sahitya Akademi Award winner Ganesh Devy is the general secretary of the Committee.

Industrialist's house, units raided
Residential and factory premises of a city-based plastic industrialist were searched by the income tax sleuths on Tuesday. Searches were conducted at factory premises in Baska village near Halol, GIDC Makaprura, Daka village in Padra taluka and Gandhidham and his residential premises on Vasna Road and Alkapuri Road in Vadodara. Deputy Director of Investigations V K Bakhshi said some incriminating papers had been seized.
