VADODARA, Dec 24: The Foods and Nutrition Department of the Home Science Faculty brought laurels to the MS University by winning five awards instituted by the Nutrition Society of India and Indian Dietetic Association.The awards include the J N Bose Memorial Award (1998) for community nutrition -- floated by the Indian Dietetic Association -- to Dr Farhat Saiyed, the Young Scientist (Senior) Award (1998) of the Nutrition Society of India and Kelloggs Award (1998) to Kalpana Tiwari of Nepal to pursue research in the F and N Department, Sagarmal Goenka Award (1998) to Swati Desai and K G Naidu Medical Trust Award (1998) to Bhaghyashree.
Meanwhile, the Foods and Nutrition Alumni Association presented its annual outstanding alumni award to MSU Chancellor Mrunalini Devi Puar. Puar's association with the department dates back to the 1960s when she was an undergraduate student. Later, after studying abroad she re-joined the department to teach there. She did her Ph.D. in nutrition and was president of the Nutrition Foundation of India as well as the Home Science Association of India. She was on the executive committee of the International Home Economics Association.
