Srinath loses to Anthony

A tired Indian hockey team zipped around the Capital today, followed by TV cameras and media, revelling in the attention they had craved for in past few years. After a memorable meeting with the Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the morning, the Golden Boys rushed to collect their kits and were soon back at the Taj Palace for yet another date with the mediamen.
Badal's gesture
The Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today announced that a state reception would be organised by the Punjab government to honour the gold medal winning Indian hockey team at the recent Bangkok Asian Games. He also announced a cash award of Rs. one lakh each to the three Punjab players in the team -- Ramandeep Singh, Baljit Singh Dhillon and Baljeet Singh Saini.
Punjab Police win
Punjab police pipped defending champions Punjab and Sind Bank 1-0 to the title of the second All-India Ramesh Chander Memorial hockey tournament this evening. The hero for the cops was Baljit Singh Bhullar who scored the match-winner in the first half.
Golf tourney
A consistent round of two-under par 68 saw Calcutta's Feroz Ali catch up with overnight leader Mukesh Kumar on the second day of the Rs 5 lakh BPGC Open. Mukesh, the two-time defending champion, finished with a card of one-under par 69 to take his total to 136 after 36 holes. The seasoned pros now lead the pack of 45 professionals who made the cut applied at nine over par 149.
