Significant win for PSEB

CHANDIGARH, Dec 24: Punjab State Electricity Board, Patiala showed their prowess beating Youth Club, Dehradun by a brace in the Baba Zorawar Singh Fateh Singh Shahidi football tournament at Fatehgarh Sahib today.

Also winning their matches today were Rail Coach Factory (Kapurthala) and Border Security Force (Jalandhar). RCF beat Indian Air Force, Delhi 4-2 (via tie-breaker) while BSF beat Fatehgarh Sahib 6-5 (also via tie-breaker).

School gymnastics
Surat will host the National and Sub-junior National School Games in gymnastics (boys and girls: u-19, u-17, u-14) from February 2 to 6. The events will be organised in the newly-constructed indoor stadium there.

All the states/units have been advised to send in their entries by 27th January to S S Wagh, Secretary, Sports Authority of India, Gandhinagar, according to B D Gandhi, Hony Secretary General, School Games Federation of India.

MDU dominate
Rohtak: Hosts Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak dominated the fourth day's events of the 39th Inter-University Boxing Championship, as eight of their puglists entered the last four in different categories here last evening. Three of the hosts boxers lost in the quaterfinal rounds.

Puglists from Nagpur, Guru Nanak Dev, Panjab, Jamia Millia, Allahabd, Madras, Osmania and Kurukshetra were among those making the last four grades.

Punjab gymnastics
Gurdaspur: The Senior Punjab Gymnastic Championship will be held here from January 9 to 11. More than 250 gymnasts from 12 districts of Punjab, Punjab Police and Border Security Forces will take part in the meet. Cash awards will be given to the winners.

Sunanda Memorial
Ludhiana: The Ludhiana District Badminton Championship dedicated to the memory of Sunanda Bhanot, a PAU student who died in a road accident on the PAU Campus last month, will commence tomorrow at Shastri Hall of Guru Nanak Dev Stadium here. According to R.S. Behal, general secretary, Ludhiana District Badminton Association, the four-day championship will be conducted for boys and girls of all age groups and also for veterans above 45 years of age.
