NEW DELHI, December 24: Left-arm spinner Pradeep Jain (4 for 15) and medium pacer Ajay Parihar (3 for 18) helped Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) regain the 21st Shiv Kumar memorial tournament after a gap of five years with a convincing 51-run victory over South Delhi Coaching Centre at Ramjas sports complex here.Electing to bat, ONGC made 143 for five in the stipulated 30 overs, thanks to an undefeated 50-run stand for the sixth wicket between skipper Chetan Sharma (28) and Mohd Saif (24). Pradeep Jain (22), Sumeet Dogra (24) and Ravi Sehgal (20) contributed useful scores.
In reply, South Delhi batsmen failed to survive against some hostile pace bowling from the tall Ajay Parihar and the guiles of spinner Pradeep Jain. Only Akash Malhotra (37) and Gursharan Singh (15) made some attempt to prolong the innings but they could not succeed much aginst a sustained onslaught by ONGC bowlers.
Gursharan Singh (man of the tournament), Rizwan Shamshad (best batsman), Iresh Saxena (best bowler) and Ajay Parihar (man of the final) received special prizes.
Brief Scores: ONGC: 143 for 5 in 30 overs (Pradeep Jain 22, Sumeet Dogra 24, Ravi Sehgal 20, Mohd Saif 24 not out, Chetan Sharma 28 not out, Ved Prakash 2 for 24). South Delhi: 92 all out in 26.2 overs (Akash Malhotra 37, Pradeep Jain 4 for 15, Ajay Parihar 3 for 18).
