Windfall for Asiad medallists
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has announced a cash award of Rs five lakh for gold medal winners at the Bangkok Asian Games and Rs three and two lakh respectively for silver and bronze medalists. The Indian Hockey Federation has also announced a cash prize of Rs one lakh each for the hockey team for winning the gold after a 32 year hiatus.

India must clean up at Basin
The winner of the second Test between New Zealand and India, which begins in Wellington on Saturday at Basin Reserve, could well emerge the victor in the series, which has been reduced to a two-match contest after the washout of the first encounter in Dunedin.

Aussies face pace grimace
Australia may be without both their pace bowlers for the fourth Test with England starting in Melbourne on December 26. Glenn McGrath was battling a mystery virus yesterday, the day after Jason Gillespie pulled out with a knee injury.
