Seminar on decorum in Indian legislatures held
A seminar on Decorum in Indian Legislatures, organised by the All India Conference of Intellectuals, was held at the Fore School of Management on Sunday. Debates in Parliament and state assemblies were increasingly degenerating into brawls, the speakers observed. It was suggested that the whips of all parties be involved in allocating time for legislators and to ensure adherence to the ruling of the chair. Ten Great Son/Daughter of the Soil -- 1998 awards were also presented on the occasion. Union Minister Madan Lal Khurana, Central Vigilance Commissioner N. Vittal and Editor-in-chief Shekhar Gupta are among those who were selected for the award.

No IGNOU authorisation to open Net access points for institutions
Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) today said no institution or individual has been authorised to open new internet access points (IAPS) for its computer courses. Certain institutions had issued advertisements in newspapers claiming to be the authorised ignou agency for opening these access points, IGNOU said in a statement.

The university clarified that no middleman has been authorised for the job and IGNOU was directly giving the permission to open such IAPS.

State minister for education calls for improvement of education quality
Delhi Minister for Education Narendra Nath called upon public schools to help improve the quality of education in the Capital. Speaking at a felicitation function here, he urged traders to bring down prices of essential commodities. The function, organised by Goswami Samaj Delhi here, was attended by former Union Minister HKL Bhagat, legislators, educationists, social workers and hundreds of children from various schools.
