EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Dec 27: DAV College, Chandigarh prevailed over Punjab University Campus 3-2 in the final of the Panjab University Inter-College Tennis Championship (men) at the PU Campus grass courts here today.

Punjab University Campus were lucky not to be declared defaulters after an aggravative unsportmanship behaviour by JP Singh in the first reverse singles. The PU Campus player shouted at the chair umpire for a baseline call which was correct in the second set (5-3) against Birbal Wadehra of DAV College. The match referee took a lenient view after J P Singh apologised to the chair umpire. JP Singh was also earlier given `soft warning' for time violation.

At the adjacent court Sarbarinder Singh, son of late hockey Olympion Surjit Singh Randhawa caused a major upset as he shocked experienced Gagandeep Wasu. After going down fighting in the first set at 4-6, Sarbarinder Singh fought back with vengeance. A stubborn Wasu and spirited Sarbarinder Singh traded stroke for stroke. The DAV College player won the second set at 7-5 after fighting for every point. The third set was also a clif-hanger.
