SAMASTIPUR, DEC 28: Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Umesh Prasad Mahto was shot dead at Chanddharpur village under Kalyanpur police station of Samastipur district on Sunday.The police said here today that five criminals went to Mahto's residence and opened fire, killing him on the spot.
One person had been made accused in an First Information Report lodged with the police station.
Party supporters blocked Samastipur-Patna road near district magistrate's residence for several hours, police added.
