MUMBAI, DEC 28: The passenger car sales recorded a negative growth of over three per cent during April-November as against the same period the previous year.Sales of heavy commercial vehicle (HCV), particularly Telco sales, started to look up in the month of November.
GM posted a fall of 62.73 per cent in the period with sales of 2,441 cars over 6,550 cars sold during April-November 1997-98.
While Daewoo Motors recorded 18 per cent drop in sales, Hindustan Motors and Premier Automobiles suffered drops to the tune of 14 per cent and 72 per cent respectively.
Hyundai and Honda sold 4,567 and 6,367 cars during April to November 1998. Honda bettered sales of City in November by 169 cars over 554 cars in October.
Sales of Ind Auto which makes Fiat Uno were also up in November due to the performance of the car's diesel version. Ind Auto sold 648 cars in November as against 612 cars sold in October.
The sales of two-wheeler manufacturers continued to show an uptrend. Though its sales plummeted inNovember, Bajaj Auto managed to return a positive growth of 0.81 per cent during the period. The company sold 4,11,476 scooters this year as against 4,08,162 units sold during the same period the previous year.
Kanpur-based LML Ltd also scraped through recession with marginal growth rate of 5.43 per cent, while Kinetic Honda faced a drop of over 20 per cent in the period.
