City limit extension opposed

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Dec 28: Even as the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) undertakes a survey of 21 villages to be included in its limits, Congress leader in the Vadodara District Panchayat I U Patel has demanded the Panchayat to pass a resolution against the VMC move.

In a letter to the District Panchayat president, Patel said if the villages were included in the VMC limits the income of the village and taluka panchayats and, district panchayat would suffer a lot.

Patel further said the VMC which could not provide amenities in the villages which had been included in the last expansion wanted more villages to be in its limits.

Cutting across the party lines this matter should be taken up, he said and added that it was a well-known fact that residents of several villages around Vadodara had opposed the VMC's move to include them in city limits.

In another letter written to District Development Officer Anju Sharma, Patel said the panchayat should survey the number of its employees who were deputed to other departments. He said deputations created more problem for the panchayat administration as many vacancies were not filled up following ban on recruitments.

In the General Board meeting, when he asked Sharma as to why she remained absent in the last month meeting, Sharma said she had to meet the British High Commission team for the development of the district. He also questioned why another meeting was adjourned. Despite a quorum, the meeting was adjourned as the BJP members were busy in Bharuch by-election.

At the meeting, members of two committees were appointed. Women and Children Development Committee: Lila Rathwa, Savita Rathwa, Vanlatta Bhil, Jyotsana Barot, Leela Rathwa. Production, Cooperation and Irrigation Committee: Rameshchandra Patel, Bhagubhai Baria, Rasik Rathwa and Shankarbhai Bhil.
