SURAT, Dec 28: In two separate raids conducted by the District Supplies department, officials seized goods worth over Rs 50,000 and initiated proceedings against the accused, a release issued here by the department said.In the first raid conducted at Mahavir Provision Stores, located near Vaishali Cinema, the department inspectors from the Katargam and Varachha zones seized stocks of wheat, rice and edible oil worth Rs 38,000. DSO K D Chandnani said that owner of the shop Hastimal Keshrimal had stocked the goods without having maintained any records. The stocks were confiscated and attached to government property.
In the second raid conducted by Lal Darwaja and Narayan Nagar, Katargam, the inspectors seized blue-dyed kerosene worth Rs 12,200.
The kerosene was illegally stored and sold at higher rates, Chandnani said. The raids were carried out on the orders of District Magistrate R M Shah.
