LUCKNOW, Dec 29: Even as Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh has threatened mid-term polls in a bid to silence his detractors should they even think of replacing him, the anti-CM camp is unwilling to call a truce.A group of Brahmin legislators, including allies which recently had a meeting against the ``autocratic'' functioning of the Chief Minister, have decided to hold another in Lucknow on January 7. This time, noticing Kalyan's knee-jerk reaction over their first meeting, the group of Brahmin legislators has decided to increase the pressure on the party leadership for Kalyan's removal.
The BJP legislator from Kanpur, Neeraj Chaturvedi, who played a crucial role in bringing disgruntled members of his community on one platform on the Kalyan issue, obviously dismisses such talk. ``We are not assembling for any political motive,'' he said. ``It is just an attempt to bring members of our community closer.''
Adding to the Chief Minister's worries, the allies too are holding a meeting in Lucknow, the motive of which is anybody's guess. They had been demanding Kalyan's ouster, alleging he had been inaccessible to them and that party leaders had been ``unproductive'' as regards their affairs. Meanwhile, at a Press conference today, Janata Dal leader Rajaram Pandey said: ``My party extended support to the BJP in the state so that it can remain in power for a full term. We have given support to the party and not to an individual''. Echoing his stand was Loktantrik Congress Party general secretary Siraj Mehandi. At another press conference, CLP leader Pramod Tiwari said that instead of continuing to lead an unstable government, Kalyan Singh should resign. He added that the Opposition would not have to make any effort to destabilise the BJP-led Government. It would fall on its own, he said.
