Tainted Olympics should stop after 2004: Australian officialSYDNEY: The International Olympic movement has been so tainted by recent bribery scandal that the 2004 Athens Games should be the last in the modern era, former Australian sports minister Andrew Thomson said today.
He said the Olympics would probably already have been killed off if Beijing had won the right to host the 2000 Games rather than Sydney, whose bid he believes was clean.
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) became engulfed in scandal earlier this month when executive board member Marc Hodler claimed up to 25 IOC members had received favours or cash for votes in four recent polls to choose Olympic sites.
Lloyd stresses on use of third umpire
DURBAN: West Indies manager Clive Lloyd stressed the need to make use of television replays after Carl Hooper was dismissed controversially in the third Test against South Africa on Monday.
Hooper immediately walked when he was caught behind, low down on the leg side, butslow motion TV replays showed the ball touched the ground as wicketkeeper Mark Boucher took it in his left glove.
Lloyd said: ``Had Hooper stood there the umpires may have referred it to the third umpire, but he walked. Sometimes in those situations you don't know whether you've caught the ball or not. It's just one of those things, part and parcel of the game. But if you have the technology, you should use it to rectify these sorts of situations.''
