Mumbai, DEC 29: Rashtriya Chemicals and Ferilizers (RCF) are in a commanding position against holders Varun Shipping after the first day of the three-day semi-final of the Times Shield B Division cricket tournament at Matunga, today.At close of play, RCF were 92 for two after dismissing Varun Shipping for 160. Off-spinner Shreyas Khanolkar was the wrecker-in-chief.Varun, afer electing to bat, ran into trouble. They lost both their openers before reaching twenties. Vincent Albuquerque (0) was the first to go, caught behind of medium-pacer Vivek Narvane, while Rohit Naidu (11) became the first victim of Sameer Inamdar.
One-drop Ajay Joshi and captain Anand Tiwari then carried the total to 40, before Joshi was claimed by left-arm spinner Rajesh Prabhudesai. He made 12 off 25 balls.
Tiwari then added 35 runs for the fourth wicket with Rohit Rane before he became the first scalp of Khanolkar. Tiwari's steady knock of 25 was studded with four hits to the ropes in 57 balls. Khanolkar then took two quickwickets to reduce the holders from 75-4 to 89-6.
Khanolkar finished with remarkable figures of 21-3-53-5, while seamer Inamdar and left-arm Prabhudesai took two wickets each. RCF began on a steady note with their openers Sachin Kakdekar and Yogesh Patil putting on 35 runs in 7.1 overs before Patil was run-out for 25 with four hits to the boundary. In the 17th over left-arm spinner Digvijay Singh bowled Kakdekar for 20.
