VADODARA, Dec 29: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) on Tuesday recovered an amount of more than Rs 12.5 lakhs following a house tax recovery drive conducted in the Mahalakshmi Complex, Karelibaug, and the Fire Brigade and Chimnabai Tower areas of Raopura falling under Ward No 8. Five teams of civic officials were engaged in the drive.In a statement on Tuesday, Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria has called to attention of the defaulters that those failing to pay their dues before the expiry of the last date issued on the bills, will be required to pay a fine at an interest rate of 18 per cent and penalty at the rate of 25 per cent.
Also, following the expiry of the demand notice date, the corporation will be entitled to attach the said defaulter's property under the BPMC Act, 1949. Meanwhile, traders of the raided Mahalakshmi Complex have alleged that the civic officials had forcibly tried to confiscate goods from the various shops and offices housed in the complex during the recovery drive.
Public notice: In a public notice issued on Monday, Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Administration) H S Patel has stated that all new constructions within the city limits are required to possess a completion/occupation certificate before being put to formal use. Similarly, permission under the BPMC Act is mandatory for undertaking any new construction within the civic limits.
