VADODARA, Dec 29: The Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) has decided to convert the 33 KV transmission lines into 66 KV transmission lines to ensure voltage stability for consumers, Board chairman Nalin Bhatt said on Tuesday.The Gujarat Electricity Board has transmission lines ranging from 11 KV to 400 KV. Bhatt added as necessary material is not available for the 33 KV lines it becomes difficult to provide good quality electricity and that transmission and distribution losses are on the higher side as compared to 66 KV lines.
He further said to begin with Rs 8.18 crore would be spent to convert Santrampur, Zhalod and Kadana sub-stations of Dahod into 66 KV capacity in 1998-99 and 1999-2000 A.D.
According to him, with the changes, the consumers there will find improved voltage stability.
Meanwhile, according to a Gujarat Electricity Board official, those industries using electricity during nights will get a benefit of Rs 1.10 per unit as compared to others. He further said due to the introduction of the scheme from December 25, the electricity available in the grid of the Gujarat Electricity Board during nights could be utilised in an effective manner.
In another development, two additional engineers have been promoted as special chief engineers. N C Shah (Chief Engineer Distribution) has been promoted as chief engineer in the same department. P H Rana, who is working as special chief engineer at Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Limited has been made chief engineer.
Surat special chief engineer P M Upadhyay has been promoted as general manager (commerce) in place of J T Banwadia, who has retired. M R Amre, additional engineer in the head office, will succeed Upadhyay.
