SURAT, Dec 29: A 25-year-old electrical technician committed suicide in the Reliance Industries Limited's Hazira plant late on Sunday. The body of Sajid Gulamalai Bakawala was found from near the locker room of MEG Plant I on Monday morning.An employee found Bakawala lying near the locker room when he reported for duty on Monday morning. After an emergency alarm was sounded, Bakawala was taken to the Reliance medical centre by the fire fighting personnel where he was declared dead.
The body was brought to the New Civil Hospital for post mortem. A Reliance spokesman said a suicide note was recovered from the deceased's pocket. The deceased had some family problems. Sub inspector I R Chaudhary of the Icchapore Police Station is investigating.
Meanwhile, five technicians working at the Hazira-based Essar Steel suffered burns following bursting of a plastic pipe carrying oil in the Hot Briquetted Iron plant on Sunday. The technicians were working to clear the choked line when a piece of iron fell on the pipe carrying oil.
The pipe broke at a couple of places spraying hot oil on the technicians. They were immediately rushed to the Adarsh Hospital in Adarsh, where their condition was reported to be safe.
