Centre agrees to hospital staff demands

NEW DELHI, December 29: The Union cabinet today accepted the demands of sections of employees of the hospitals the Centre runs in the Capital. Some 16,000 employees benefit from the decision. Yesterday, sanitary workers, ward staff and laboratory assistants in Central and Delhi state government hospitals struck work. The state government has since announced 100 per cent increase in patient care allowance of some 54,000 group C and D hospital employees.The beneficiaries include staff of hospitals like LNJP, Deen Dayal, Sucheta Kriplani, Guru Teg Bahadur and Maulana Azad, apart from ESI hospitals, medical colleges, CGHS dispensaries, research centres, NICD and NMEP. A Central government spokesman said the cabinet approval was sought for enhancement of hospital patient care allowance for group C and group D employees and extension of enhanced washing allowance.
