Anil, Deepak in finals

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Dec 29: Anil Sharma and Deepak Goel qualified for finals in the billiards as well as snooker events of the Haryana State Championship being played simultaneously at the Cannon Ball Basement in Sector 37 and YMCA Hall in Sector 11 here.

Anil struggled to overcome a tough resistance from Honey Bhalla in snooker semi-final. Anil won the first frame at 57-19 by producing fine potting. However, Honey was in top form in the second frame which he claimed with ease 60-18. In the third frame the situation changed as Anil gained lead from the beginning and maintained it till the end 62-39. In the fourth frame both players scored side-by-side but Honey finally won it 48-34. Surprisingly, the final frame turned out to be a one-sided affair as Anil ran through it convincingly 60-25 to win the match.

In billiards semi-finals, Anil played a lacklustre match against Rakesh Gupta. However, he was lucky to prevail over Gupta by a narrow margin 310-260. Both played below their natural game. However, Anil was more consistant and managed to make the best use of openings to clinch the match.

Deepak an inspired game to win both his semi-finals.

In snooker he subduced Sunny Bhalla in a closely fought match. Deepak, who began on a sad note by losing the first frame at 19-60, fought back to beat Sunny in the second frame 63-53. Deepak managed to win the third frame 42-38. The fourth frame was a formality as Deepak demolished his rival 71-9.

In billiards, Deepak triumphed over Lalit with a big margin 475-290.
