Vajpayee snubs VHP, invites Sen for talks
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has written to Nobel laureate Amartya Sen inviting him for a one-to-one discussion on developmental strategies and economic concepts. The letter is also seen as a rebuff to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which has been attacking the Nobel laureate.
Ordinance for ULCRA repeal next week
The Cabinet has decided to scrap the Urban Land Ceiling and Regulation Act (ULCRA) of 1976 through an ordinance. Once done, theoretically, this will free around two lakh hectares of land across the country for construction purposes.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi has regretted that Prime Minister A B Vajpayee "tolerated" the charges of "corruption" against former chief minister and AIADMK General Secretary, J Jayalalitha, merely to stick to power.
