CHENNAI, Jan 6: The Tamil Maanila Congress today demanded that the BJP-led Government at the Centre make its position clear on Shiv Sena leader Bal Thackeray's concerted campaign against Pakistan, its cricket players, musicians and artistes.Describing Thackeray's propaganda as a dangerous trend that will do immense damage to the democratic structures of the country, TMC leader Jayanthi Natarajan MP in a statement said the BJP Government has to bear in mind the compulsions of upholding the secular value system underwritten by the Constitution, and also of maintaining good bilateral relations with the neighbours.
While holding the BJP government responsible for Thackaray's ``irresponsible behaviour and fascist campaign against the minorities,'' she said there was reason to believe that the BJP extended its indirect support to Thackaray in his fierce activities marked by communal hatred.
Referring to Thackeray's plan to disrupt the cricket matches between India and Pakistan scheduled to be held later thismonth, Jayanthi asked how did Thackeray assume powers he never could have in a democracy and dictate terms to the whole nation.
The BJP Government may have to face the compulsions of coalition politics, but that did not mean that the nation's integrity can be jeopardised, she pointed out.
