SURAT, Jan 6: Six people of the Kantareshwar slum in the Katargam area were injured when two groups clashed late on Tuesday night over a minor incident. While cases have been registered against five people in the connection, no arrests were made till Wednesday evening.Armed with swords, lathis and pipes the two groups clashed at around 11 pm and also damaged one house and two larris before the police arrived.
PSI K S Malek, who is investigating the case, told Express Newsline that one Babubhai Rathod, in a complaint stated that one Kalidas alias Kaliya, Bharat alias Bhailo Mogha Rathod, Vijay Soma Rathod and five others, whom he could not identify, gathered outside his house and threatened him to not to meet one Raju, with whom he is well acquainted. They beat him up, stoned his house and damaged his omelette larri.
Following this, groups of people hurled stones and lathis at each other before the police intervened and brought the situation under control. A case has been registered under sections of the Indian Penal Code.
