AIDS helpline averages three calls every day
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, January 6: An All India Institute of Medical Sciences' AIDS helpline that was installed last month has been receiving at least three calls every day. The helpline (no. 6852785) is part of the AIDS Education and Training Cell set up by the Centre for Community Medicine of AIIMS. According to Dr Bir Singh, coordinator of the AIDS cell, the callers were offered HIV tests at the institute in cases that were deemed necessary.The doctor said that the callers were free to keep their identities secret. Called Shubhchintak, the helpline is a 10 am to 5 pm service and personally handled by the doctor. The helpline is provided for by the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO).
