VADODARA, Jan 7: Jay Anjaria of the Navrachna school won the singing contest organised jointly by The Indian Express and Pepsi on Thursday as part of the inter-school talent search championship trophy.Simran Sethi of New Era School and Suparna Banerjee of Utkarsh School won the second and third positions respectively, while a special prize was given to Deepika Menon of St Kabir school.
Students of as many as 12 city-based schools participated in the contest. Each participant had to sing one classical and one film song.
Interestingly, a tie-breaker was held between Utkarsh school student and Tejas Vidyalaya student for the third position, which saw Utkarsh emerge victorious. All participants in keeping with the current trend sang songs from the latest box-office hits including Dil Se, Jab Pyar Kisi Si Hota Hai, among others.
Talking to Express Newsline, Sethi said she was confident of winning the contest. She said the contest was tough and most of the participants did well.
Utkarsh Vidyalaya student, who was also one of the youngest participants in the contest, said she enjoyed the contest throughout, but was a bit tensed during the tie-breaker round.
Judges Kirtan Bhagwat and Kumkum Lal said the contest was tough and even they found it difficult to judge as all the participants were good.
