Rain postpones Delhi Open matches

UNITED NEWS OF INDIA
NEW DELHI, January 7: Rain washed out the quarter-final matches in the AITA Delhi Women's Open tennis tournament for the second consecutive day here today.

Yesterday only one quarter-final match was played which saw second-seed Karishma Patel (Gujarat) move into the semi-finals as she defeated Nandini Perumal (Andhra Pradesh) 6-2, 6-1. All the other singles and the dobles matches were cancelled.

AITA officials said the cancellation of matches for the second consecutive day today left the possibilty of the tournament being extended by another day.

Karishma now plays the winner of the tie between fourth-seed Harsimran Kaur (Chandigarh) and Simmi Rani (Chandigarh).
