Digging up of pitch draws flak
"Don't use sports as the shoulder to fire," former India captain Kapil Dev said today. Reacting to the Shiv Sena activists damaging the pitch at Ferozeshah Kotla last night, the ace all rounder said, "Sports is above everything". Kapil Dev said, "I respect Bal Thackeray, his party and his emotions towards the country. But, if he has a problem regarding Pakistan cricket team's tour of India, he should take it up with the government''.

East Bengal win
There were no surprises in a Group B National Football League match today. East Bengal beat FC Kochin 2-0 with Bhaichung Bhutia scoring both the goals, one in each half. While the first was a beautiful header off a Renedy Singh flag-kick, the second was a penalty conversion at the fag end of the match.

Insult to cueists
No scorers, no markers and some parents and players are themselves acting as the referees. Certainly no way to conduct the National championships of any sport, let alone a sport which fetched India two gold medals at the Asian Games last month.
