Scindia lashes out at Rabri Devi govt

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CHAPRA, JAN 13: AICC General Secretary, Madhav Rao Scindia, today criticised the RJD ministry in Bihar and said the Congress had no formal agreement to support the Rabri Devi government.

``We dont require assistance from anyone for expansion of our base. We are vigorous, strong and vibrant enough to take on challenges,'' Scindia told his party's Saran Division Workers' conference.

Launching frontal attack on RJD government for its alleged ``misrule'' for the first time, Scindia declared that his party would raise a State-wide ``strong agitation'' against the ``anti- people'' policies of the Rabri Devi ministry.

``We have not had any formal agreement for providing support to the Rabri Devi ministry,'' he said. Scindia alleged that the State government was ``misusing'' the funds being received from Centre for executing welfare schemes and those were the reasons that the State was lagging behind in the fields of education, health and other fields.

Stating that the Congress had accorded top priority to strengthening the organisation in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, Scindia said, ``we will achieve the objective through sustained efforts and struggles''. Taking a dig at the Vajpayee government at the Centre, AICC general secretary alleged that BJP government was a total failure on all fronts.

Referring to recent attacks on Christians and their places of worship in Gujarat, Scindia charged Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee of having ``failed'' to provide security to the minorities. ``Vajpayee government has rather preferred to save Gujarat government rather taking steps for protecting the Christians,'' the Congress said.
