International kite festival amuses hundreds

RAJKOT, JAN 13: Nearly a hundred kite flyers from various countries took part in the 11th International Kite Festival here on the eve of Makarsankranti today.

The festival, jointly organised by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation, Union Government and Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Government, saw participants from the US, Canada, Indonesia, South Korea, Italy, France, Holland, Germany, Malaysia, Thailand and from various states in India.

A host of kites, like the star kite, parachute kite, snake kite, fog kite, eagle kite, delta kite, sparrow kite, doll kite and hunter kite, decorated the sky, amusing the spectators.

Despite the severe cold, hundreds of people including children gathered at the Race Course Cricket Ground to witness the festival.

Kite-flying is a major festival in Gujarat and irrespective of caste and religion, people from all walks of life participate.
