NEW DELHI, Jan 14: The CPI has questioned the shifting of the Governor of Gujarat, implying that the motives of the Government were suspect.
Questioning the decision to shift the Governor, the CPI wondered whether this was to ``forestall'' any objective report from Governor Anshuman Singh to the Government and the President, about the attacks on Christian minorities by the Sangh Parivar outfits.
``Is it because he has been giving expression to his unhappiness with the State Government's complicity and role in this and in other lawless activities of these outfits?'' the CPI asked in a statement issued here.
Accusing the BJP-led Government at the Centre of trying to cover up and even provide justification for the misdeeds and constitutional improprieties of the Gujarat Government, the party General Secretary A B Bardhan said that the Governor's transfer was yet another step in the direction.
The CPI has demanded an explanation from the Vajpayee Government for its latest move, saying that otherwise people would be justified in putting an adverse interpretation to what it has done.
