NEW DELHI, Jan 14: CPI(M) today questioned Centre's recent decision to transfer Gujarat Governor Anshuman Singh saying the sudden action was bound to create suspicion about the motives of the BJP government in the wake of attacks on the Christian community in the state. The party's politburo, in a statement here, said Justice Singh was appointed Gujarat Governor only some time back and there was no valid reason for shifting him after such a short stint ``unless the Centre wants to post a person there more suited to its interest.''
``At a juncture when the state is witnessing systematic and widespread attacks against the Christian community and the state is refusing to take steps to stop the attacks, the sudden transfer of the Governor is bound to create suspicion about the motives of the Central Government,'' it said.
The statement said the normal procedure would have been to appoint a new Governor for the vacancy in Rajasthan or ask the Gujarat Governor to take additional charge till an appointment was made there.
``The BJP, since coming to power at the Centre, has proved that it can be cynical and manipulative in the use of Governors for its partisan interests,'' the statement added.
